This Privacy Policy explains what information Speekle ("we") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Speekle is a voice-based English speaking practice app.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. If you sign in, we receive basic profile details from your chosen sign-in method (Google, Apple, or a one-time code sent to your email address) — typically your name and email address.

Content you create. Words and phrases you save, the definitions you write, and your practice settings (session length, new-word density, language).

Voice audio. When you start a live voice conversation, your microphone audio is streamed in real time to an AI voice provider to generate the AI's spoken responses. Speekle uses Alibaba Cloud Model Studio (Qwen) for users connecting from mainland China and Google Gemini for other regions, with OpenAI available as a temporary fallback. Our servers issue or relay connection credentials and enforce usage limits, but do not record or permanently store the audio content itself. The selected AI provider processes the audio under its own data use and retention terms.

Usage data. Practice minutes, streaks, and preferences are stored on your device (local storage) and, if you're signed in, may sync to keep your progress consistent across devices.

2. How We Use Information

We use this information to operate the Service: running your practice sessions, generating AI conversations around your saved words, remembering your settings and progress, securing your account, and improving the Service's reliability. We do not sell your personal information.

3. Third-Party Services

We rely on third parties to provide parts of the Service: AI voice model providers (Alibaba Cloud Model Studio/Qwen, Google Gemini, and OpenAI as a temporary fallback) to power live conversations, authentication providers (Firebase/Google and Apple) to handle sign-in, and an email delivery provider (Resend) to send one-time sign-in codes. These providers process data as necessary to perform those functions and are bound by their own privacy terms.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

We keep account and content data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual saved words at any time. You can permanently delete your account and associated Speekle data directly in the app from Profile → Delete account. Account deletion does not automatically cancel an active App Store subscription, which must be managed separately in your Apple ID settings.

5. Children's Privacy

Speekle is intended for users 18 and older and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

6. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

7. International Data Transfers

Depending on where you're located, your information may be processed in a country other than your own by us or by the third-party providers described above. Live Qwen voice sessions selected for mainland China use Alibaba Cloud's Beijing region; other service components may still process data outside mainland China unless a separate mainland deployment is expressly provided.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
